Indian boy has the worst dental visit nightmare and gets 232 teeth pulled from his mouth. Complex composite of Dantana. If you think that's a mouthful, you would be right, because an Indian boy who was diagnosed with a rare condition was found to have 232 teeth. And in case you're wondering, yes, that sets a new world record and it's 200 more than what you and I have. 17-year-old Ashik Gavai lives in a village in Maharashtra. He had been complaining about a severe toothache for 18 months. He developed swelling on his right lower jaw, but local dentists couldn't figure out the

root of the problem. Fearing that he may have cancer, the boy's father took him to Mumbai's JJ Hospital, where he was diagnosed with complex composite of Dantana. Composite of Dantana are benign tooth-like tumors that have both enamel and dentin, the two major layers of the tooth, but are arranged in an abnormal pattern and are usually still in the gum. But even the head of JJ Hospital's dental unit, Sonanda Daiwire, did not know what Ashik had in his mouth. During a 7-hour operation on July 22, she tried to use regular dental tools to remove the

Dantana, but couldn't. She then used a chisel and a hammer to crack it open, and saw tiny little pearl-like teeth dropping out one by one. After she was done, her team counted 232 teeth they pulled out of Ashik's jaw. The boy now has 28 teeth in his mouth.
