open ended vasectomy
No-scalpel,no-needle vasectomy procedure performed by Dr. Neil Pollock M.D., Vancouver BC Canada.
Video Transcript
Live commentary over an open-ended, no-scalpel vasectomy. The surgeon narrates each step as it happens — the anesthetic injections, delivering the vas, cauterizing the abdominal end, and burying that end under fascia so the other end is left open — first on one side and then the other, describing the whole thing as essentially bloodless and taking about six and a half minutes.

Okay, so we're ready to begin. I'm going to give you your freezing and you will feel a little bit of a snapping sensation When I give you the freezing there you go here little snap coming here And you're going to get a snap on the other side All right here little snap good one more snap on this side and
We'll be set good Yeah, just so you can see here. We've got a finger cut so I shot the anesthetic and Had my finger behind the vans and protected it with this finger cut so we're all set to begin the surgery and If you feel anything uncomfortable, you just let us know You'll feel a little bit of tugging and pulling, but you shouldn't feel anything sharp or anything uncomfortable and first you'll feel good of a Squeezing on the UL side and then it should ease away right there
Comfortable okay, everything's going very well
Half the vans out and we're just going to cauterize it now make a little opening in it now we cauterize it just till it blanches and
We transsect the vans with a pottery wand and now we're going to Interpose the fascia or bring a sheath of fascia over the vans To vary it and separate it from the other end
And now you can see that end is getting buried in the fascia it also ties off the vessels
And an alternate to doing fascia interposition this way is to deal with a metal clip My preference is just to use this dissolvable thread
Which leaves no foreign bodies in the scrotum because it dissolves
How are you doing? Excellent. We'll just have a look at the vans and now you can see it's left open this end is not cauterized and The end is buried under the sheet there We'll lower it in make sure that when we release the pressure. There's no bleeding and there isn't Ready to move to the other side and once again you might feel a little bit of pressure When I hold the vans which will ease away And here's the other vans coming out nicely
again we'll just Cauterize the abdominal end of the vans and see it going pale and now we'll bury that end in the sheath once again So this method is referred to as the no scalpel no needle open ended the
Outside of a couple drops of blood from the skin
This is essentially a bloodless painless Six and a half minute procedure That's it Opening is quite tiny just pinch it close it and it's virtually imperceptible and that's it
