Although drug treatment of hypertension is associated with improved survival and decreased vascular complications, drug compliance is a major problem in the control of hypertension. All antihypertensive medications are associated with side effects; thus, it is a physician's responsibility to explain to each patient the side effects of the drugs he prescribes to treat hypertension, and to instill in the patient a sense of necessity for the treatment of hypertension. The choice of antihypertensive drug should be made based on each patient's lifestyle, overall health and ability to tolerate the drug. Ideally, the antihypertensive regimen should be simple, effective, convenient to take and have very few side effects.

The Catapres brand of clonidine is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). The Kapvay brand is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This procedure describes one of the most versatile approaches to the anterior skull base for large tumors of the sinonasal cavity. It may be used with or without a craniofacial resection. The benefits of this approach are: wide access around the tumor; good postoperative cosmesis; & decreased operative & postoperative morbidity. We have used this approach for many bilateral tumors of the nasal & sinus cavities that approach &/or invade the skull base & brain. This video show the resection of a large esthesioneuroblastoma.

Dermatomyositis (dur-muh-toe-my-uh-SY-tis) is an uncommon inflammatory disease marked by muscle weakness and a distinctive skin rash. Dermatomyositis affects adults and children alike. In adults, dermatomyositis usually occurs from the late 40s to early 60s. In children, the disease most often appears between 5 and 15 years of age. Dermatomyositis affects more females than males. There's no cure for dermatomyositis, but periods of remission — when symptoms improve spontaneously — may occur. Treatment can clear the skin rash and help you regain muscle strength and function. Ankle and Foot Clinical Examination - Clinical Skills - Dr Gill

When it comes to joints of the body, the ankle is one of the joints most commonly injured. This is vitally important to be able to effectively examine a patient who is complaining of pain in the ankle and foot.

In this video we will perform a demonstration of the ankle and foot examination.

Examination of the foot, and the ankle joint, follows the standard orthopaedic approach of look, feel, move.

There is a connected video to the foot and ankle examination, on the causes of carpal tunnel syndrome - here

https://youtu.be/aXx6NfBWDSs

________

Please note that there is no ABSOLUTE way to perform a clinical examination. Different institutions and even clinicians will have differing degrees of variations - the aim is the effectively identify medically relevant signs.

However during OSCE assessments. Different medical schools, nursing colleges, and other health professional courses will have their own preferred approach to a clinical assessment - you should concentrate on THEIR marks schemes for your assessments.

The examination demonstrated here is derived from Macleod's Clinical Examination - a recognized standard textbook for clinical skills.
