Heart Attack 3D Animation

This video in 30 seconds

A short 3D animation with narration explaining a heart attack. Plaque builds up in a coronary artery, a clot forms on a ruptured plaque and blocks the vessel, and the oxygen-starved heart muscle is damaged until the heart can no longer pump properly.

Key points

  • The animation shows the coronary arteries supplying blood to the heart muscle itself
  • A cholesterol plaque is shown narrowing the artery and reducing blood flow
  • Platelets gather on a ruptured plaque and form a clot that blocks the vessel
  • Heart muscle beyond the blockage is starved of oxygen and damaged
  • The damaged heart is described as no longer pumping properly

The heart is responsible for pumping oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body, providing the energy that the body needs to function. The muscles of the heart itself also need a supply of blood. The coronary arteries, one of which we see here, fill that need. Sometimes a cholesterol plaque forms on the side of the artery, reducing blood flow. If part of that plaque breaks through into the artery, platelets tend to attach to it, creating a blood clot, further reducing or blocking blood flow. The blockage in the artery prevents blood from reaching part of the heart muscle.

Without blood, the muscle is starved for oxygen, causing damage to the heart muscle. The heart attack occurs because the damaged heart can no longer pump properly.
