Hand hygiene for healthcare workers: Learn how to perform hand washing with soap and water (nursing procedures).

There are two ways to perform hand hygiene as a nurse. You can use soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub (also called hand sanitizer or hand gel).

Hand hygiene is essential for providing safe patient care. If hand hygiene is not performed regularly, germs can be easily be spread to patients, other healthcare workers, and even yourself.

Hand hygiene is ALWAYS performed before and after patient care, after coming into contact with any type of body fluid or open wounds, when touching any object that is near a patient (hand railing, bedside table etc.), removing gloves, prior to eating, or after using the bathroom.

This video discusses when you should use soap and water versus an alcohol-based hand gel, when to perform hand hygiene, and demonstrates how to perform hand hygiene using soap and water.

Bone marrow biopsy and bone marrow aspiration are procedures to collect and examine bone marrow — the spongy tissue inside some of your larger bones. Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration can show whether your bone marrow is healthy and making normal amounts of blood cells. Doctors use these procedures to diagnose and monitor blood and marrow diseases, including some cancers, as well as fevers of unknown origin. Bone marrow has a fluid portion and a more solid portion. In bone marrow biopsy, your doctor uses a needle to withdraw a sample of the solid portion. In bone marrow aspiration, a needle is used to withdraw a sample of the fluid portion.

Butt implants are a popular plastic surgery procedure among those who wish to enhance the appearance, shape, and size of their rear ends. Buttock augmentation involves the surgical insertion of artificial body implants into a patient’s buttocks to create a larger, shapelier, and more sensuous rear end. Patients who have underdeveloped buttocks can achieve a more proportionate figure with butt implants. Women who wish to achieve an “hour glass” figure or are unhappy with the size of their buttocks can benefit from female butt implants. Men with flat or poorly developed buttocks can enhance the shape of the area to their liking with male butt implants. Many buttock augmentation patients say that their clothes fit better, they feel more attractive, and their confidence levels have improved.

A penile prosthesis is another treatment option for men with erectile dysfunction. These devices are either malleable (bendable) or inflatable. The simplest type of prosthesis consists of a pair of malleable rods surgically implanted within the erection chambers of the penis. With this type of implant the penis is always semi-rigid and merely needs to be lifted or adjusted into the erect position to initiate sex. This type of implant is a good choice for men with spinal cord injuries and/or limited hand strength. Today, many men choose a hydraulic, inflatable prosthesis, which allows them to have an erection when they choose, and it's easier to conceal. It is also more natural. A penile implant is usually used when there is a clear medical cause for ED and when the problem is unlikely to resolve or improve naturally or with other medical treatments. Sometimes a penile prosthesis is implanted during surgery to reconstruct the penis when scarring has caused erections to curve (Peyronie's disease). Penile implant surgeries take about an hour and are typically done in an outpatient center. A man can resume sexual intercourse by 6 weeks after surgery.

In this video, I demonstrate how to clean an ampule using alcohol prep, how to open (or break) an ampule, as well as how to dispose of the ampule.

In addition, I show how to use an ample filter straw while drawing up (withdrawing) medication, how to use the syringe, and how to remove the air bubbles in the syringe.
