Leading cardiologists Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, Director of Mount Sinai Heart and Herschel Sklaroff, MD, Clinical Professor of Medicine, Cardiology at Mount Sinai Heart were filmed for one-month for the “Making Rounds” documentary film as they cared for critically-ill heart patients in the Cardiac Care Unit at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Watch Mount Sinai Heart doctors, fellows, residents, and nurses in action and saving lives demonstrating how simply listening to patients at the bedside remains medicine’s most indispensable tool over any technology.
In this film Mount Sinai Heart helps preserve the disappearing art and science of how to examine and diagnose patients at the bedside for future generations of physicians.

Position the patient with her buttocks just at the edge or just over the edge of the exam table. If she is not down far enough, inserting the speculum can be more difficult for you and uncomfortable for her.

Majority of patients these days prefer PCNL ( Minimal Invasive Telescopic removal of kidney stones broken with lithoclast, removed through a button hole incision ). This patient with a big stone in the pelvis of the kidney wanted it open only so I did an open pyelolithotomy for this patient after a long time as I use to do it in routine in the past. Except for the long incision and scar as compared to PCNL the recovery time was the same and patient went home third day happily walking and eating.
These older clinical skills videos are being retired, but rather than delete them, I decided to archive them here
In this video, we demonstrate how to perform a clinical examination of the CARDIAC SYSTEM for your medical school Clinical Skills OSCE. As the gastrointestinal exam is a core skill when it comes to examining patients, students should assume that an abdominal assessment is a high yield station for any clinical exams or clinical assessments.
For a passing grade in your Clinical Skills OSCE, for the cardiac exam follow the approach of:
- Inspection
- Palpation
- Percussion
- Auscultation
HOWEVER, an cardiac examination OSCE station does not just involve listening to the heart this video also demonstrates some of the specialised examination techniques required in examining cardiology patients
Chest, pain and general concerns about the heart are common reasons for patients to see a doctor, and in any speciality, the cardiac exam will be needed
This video has five other Cardiology system-focused videos associated with it:
https://youtu.be/dxUHp85M8kQ - cardiac deep dive
https://youtu.be/CyQqxXZyQVw - cardiac demo
https://youtu.be/DdF2cbpE6mQ - cardiac murmurs
https://youtu.be/UdT9Aj5Cujo - ecg demo

-------------------
Please note that there is no ABSOLUTE way to perform a clinical examination. Different institutions and even clinicians will have differing degrees of variations - the aim is the effectively identify medically relevant signs.
However during OSCE assessments. Different medical schools, nursing colleges and other health professional courses will have their own preferred approach to a clinical assessment - you should concentrate on THEIR marks schemes for your assessments.
The examination demonstrated here is derived from Macleods Clinical Examination - a recognised standard textbook for clinical skills.
Some people viewing this medical examination video may experience an ASMR effect

-The cremasteric reflex test is considered positive if there is elevation of the testis in response to stroking the upper inner thigh. This reaction is typically absent in testicular torsion and boys under the age of 6 months. Although not completely reliable in older boys and adults, an absent cremasteric reflex is highly suggestive of torsion. Patients with epididymitis usually have a normal cremasteric reflex, with pain and swelling isolated to
