From across the room, using controls and pedals—pediatric surgeons at Golisano Children’s Hospital are now able to operate on patients without even touching them. “It allows performances of deep surgeries in the pelvis or abdomen through tiny, little incisions as opposed to a traditional, large incision to get access to the areas where urologists often operate,” explained Dr. Rahman Abd-El-Barr, a pediatric urologist with Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.

The DaVinci robot is a robotic platform that allows surgeons to do minimally invasive surgery, leaving patients with smaller incisions and a quicker recovery. “This is important because it allows us to minimize recovery time, pain, bleeding with surgery, and especially with kids, it helps them to get back on their feet right away,” he said.

So when high school athlete, Reagan Rebeor found out she needed to have kidney surgery, she decided to have it robotically. “Thankfully, I did that because if not, I would have had a long scar down my stomach instead of small holes, small incisions. I had pain for three days, three or four days. Then after that, I was fine,” she said.

While it’s not an option for all pediatric surgeries, doctors say it can be very beneficial for teenage and adult patients needing reconstructive surgery. An option that allows patients a quicker and easier recovery.

Female Foley Insertion (Urinary Catheter)- Nursing Skills

In this video, we’re going to look at inserting a Foley catheter in a female. Of course make sure you’ve verified your order and told the patient what’s happening. You’ll also typically want to perform perineal care before you start. Then, you’ll want to assist the patient into the appropriate position. For females, that’s supine with their knees bent and feet close to their hips – allowing their knees to fall to the side. You may need a helper to help hold the patient in this position. Nose jobs have long been one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures. This is no surprise considering that the nose is the centerpiece of the face. Having a hump or otherwise misshapen nose can make an individual very embarrassed.

A rhinoplasty, or nose job, is surgery performed to alter the way your nose functions and looks. Rhinoplasty can simultaneously help you improve breathing and achieve a more balanced appearance. Rhinoplasty sometimes referred to as a "nose job" or "nose reshaping" by patients, enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose.

Nose surgery that's done to improve an obstructed airway requires careful evaluation of the nasal structure as it relates to airflow and breathing. Correction of a deviated septum, one of the most common causes of breathing impairment, is achieved by adjusting the nasal structure to produce better alignment.

Steps of a Rhinoplasty Surgery
1. Incision markings are done in order to elevate the skin flap on the nose. Very small columella incision is made and the rest all are made inside the nostrils so that the scars are never visible.
2.Very fine cuts are made by a very fine scalpel so that the scars which patients get are minimal. a bloodless dissection is done through an infra cartilaginous incision. This dissection is done just above the cartilage The soft tissue over the tip is removed to make the tip look thinner and sharper (Diamond shaped) and once the desired shape is obtained the incisions are closed.
3. In the end, the nose is covered by gauze packing and splints to support the nose as it begins to heal. The nasal pack is removed in 24 hours and the splints stay for 7 days.

Once the splints and nasal packs are removed the patient can see the results of the rhinoplasty. There is no physical limitation after the surgery. The ultrasonic rhinoplasty makes the swelling less and the recovery is faster. The patient is discharged on the same day of surgery and can resume all the activities. There is no pain at all or no physical rest required.
